ABOUT THE TEAM

“Astana” Football Club is a professional club representing the same-name city. Being a three-time champion of Kazakhstan, it was the first Kazakhstan’s club representing our country in the group stage UEFA Champion’s League.

The home stadium of “Astana” FC - “Astana Arena” - was opened in 2009. With official capacity of 30, 000 it is the largest football stadium in Kazakhstan. Starting from 2009 the team competes in Kazakhstan Premier League. The general sponsor of the club is “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC

HISTORY

2009

The club is formed under the name of Lokomotiv

Before the start of the season, Lokomotiv immediately was considered the favorite for the champion’s title, but yet lacking teamwork not allowed to achieve victory. By the 18th round, Lokomotiv topped the standings, but Aktobe still had three games ahead. The match between the two clubs ended with the victory of Lokomotiv, but Aktobe finished the season more successfully and become the champion of the country.

2010

Lokomotiv won Kazakhstan Cup

On November 14, 2010, Lokomotiv won the Kazakhstan Cup, beating Shakhter from Karaganda in the finals at the Astana Arena stadium with a score of 1:0, scored by Mikhail Rozhkov.

2011

On May 20, 2011, the founders of the club decided to rename it as Astana

On November 11, 2011, Oleg Protasov was appointed as the head coach of Astana. After a big 1:4 defeat by outsider Okzhetpes, Protasov voluntarily resigns. Soon, the Kazakhstan’s national team’s coach Miroslav Beranek was proposed the position of head coach.

As a result, the team wins Kazakhstan Super Cup.

2013

The club gets a new sponsor — the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna

Right away, the maximum goal in the Championship was set — gold medals, and all efforts have been expended to achieve it. The team played very well throughout the championship, failing only in the last rounds. As a result, the team finished just one point behind the previous season’s champion Aktobe.

2014

The club rightfully won the title of national champions

This was achieved in advance, two rounds before the end of the season, including a catch-up match. During the championship, Astana played 32 matches, in which scored 18 wins, ended ten matches in a draw, and only four matches were lost by the capital club.

2015

FC Astana won the Championship of Kazakhstan and became the first Kazakhstani club in the group stage of the Champions League!

By tradition, the season of 2015 opened with the match for the Super Cup. The first trophy of the season was contested by 2014 champion Astana and winner of the 2014 Cup of Kazakhstan, Kairat from Almaty.

In a persistent struggle, after the most-match penalty shootout, logically concluded by the winning goal of Abzal Beysebekov, the team won the Kazakhstan Super Cup.

The main goals of Astana FC include promoting the image of Kazakhstan and its capital Astana worldwide and popularization of healthy lifestyle.

Long-term goals:


-          To create the Academy meeting international standards


-          To nurture next generation of athletes to represent Kazakhstani football worldwide


-          To Become a regular participant of top European Championship


Goals for the upcoming season:


– To win the Kazakhstan Championship and Kazakhstan Cup, to participate in the Euro Cup Group stage.
